WaterView today announces it has joined NVIDIA Metropolis, a partner program focused on bringing to market a new generation of AI applications. The program nurtures a rich ecosystem and offers powerful developer tools to supercharge vision AI applications that are designed to make the world's most important spaces and operations safer and more efficient.

As part of NVIDIA Metropolis, WaterView extends its primary mission to leverage cameras to monitor the impacts of climate change. Coping with climate change is in fact not only a matter of mitigation: we must improve early warning and disaster management with technologies providing granular, real-time and reliable weather and environmental data. “To reach this goal,” says Paola Allamano, co-founder and CEO of WaterView, “we leverage NVIDIA products and vision AI tools to use our patented weather analytics (known as CAM applications) with virtually every camera in existing CCTV networks, to extract real-time information on extreme weather events and their effects, thus generating alerts and actionable insights that may even save people lives.” NVIDIA tools not only allow WaterView to seamlessly use its analytics with existing and often composite networks, but are also opening the doors to new use cases, like monitoring weather and environmental conditions from moving cameras, like the ones mounted on vehicles or drones.

CAM applications extract from images data and alerts that may be used in a variety of different situations, such as:

  • Heavy rain and snowfall detection
  • Flood detection along rivers and waterfronts
  • Smoke plumes and wildfire detection in protected areas
  • Smoke detection in oil & gas plants, or in waste recycling sites
  • Fluid spills detection in industrial plants
  • Visibility distance estimation along road networks and in airports
  • Flood detection insensitive areas like underpasses
  • Snow settling detection on road pavement

NVIDIA tools are also enabling a brand new family of visual AI applications developed by WaterView. By using cameras andGPU-powered edge AI appliances mounted on dedicated vehicles, WaterView is in fact paving the way to continuous, real-time highway monitoring, to provide key data for infrastructure maintenance and people safety.

Being a part of NVIDIA Metropolis, WaterView gains increased exposure to industry experts, AI-driven organisations, governments, and integration partners looking to leverage world-class AI-enabled solutions to improve critical operational efficiency and safety problems. WaterView also has early access to NVIDIA platform updates and can tap into NVIDIA’s diverse partner ecosystem to support camera-based solutions development.

NVIDIA Metropolis makes it easier and more cost effective for enterprises, governments, and integration partners to use world-class AI-enabled solutions to improve critical operational efficiency and solve safety problems. The NVIDIA Metropolis ecosystem contains a large and growing breadth of members who are investing in the most advanced AI techniquesand most efficient deployment platforms, and using an enterprise-class approach to their solutions. Members can gain early access to NVIDIA platform updates tofurther enhance and accelerate their AI application development efforts. The program also offers the opportunity for members to collaborate with industry-leading experts and other AI-driven organisations.
